Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts Maps

Located to the west of Tiananmen Square, the National Center for the Performing Arts is a magnificient building that looks like a bright pearl in the lake or a big duck egg. It floats in the man-made lake, covering an area of about 118 thousand square meters. Entering this great building, one needs to pass a 80 merter-long underwater passage. 60% of its constructions are underground while the constructions above the earth is 46 meters high. This bold new design is mainly worked out by a French architect Paul Andreu, reflecting a perfect combination of tradition and modern, romance and reality.

National Center for the Performing Arts

The building is mainly consists of three Halls, namely Hall for Opera, Hall for Drama and Hall for Music. Main performaces of Hall for Opera are opera performing, ballet and dance drama; Hall for Drama mainly performs stage play, Beijing Opera , local opera and folk singing and dancing while Hall for Music offers audiences a feast symphony, folk music and concerts.

Opening hours:

  • 13:00-17:00 (from Monday to Sunday, tickets are not available after 16:30)
  • During the Chinese Spring Festival (lunar calendar from Jan.1 to 7), it opens to the public in 24 hours.

Tips: Western Food Restaurant in National Center for Performing Arts offers you a variety western food as well as Chinese cuisine and Southeat Asia cuisine. The theater is specially design some menue that have a perfect match with the theater atmosphere.
