Beijing Old Summer Palace Travel Guide
Old Summer Palace, known in China as the Ruins of the Yuanmingyuan (the Gardens of Perfect Brightness), is located just outside the west gate of Tsinghua University, north of Peking University, and east of the (present-day) Summer Palace.
The Garden was first constructed in the year of 1709 during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Over the next 150 years of the Qing Dynasty, this Garden was expanded to be a large-scale Chinese emperors' private pleasure garden, where the emperors of the Qing Dynasty resided and handled government affairs. It covers a total area of 350 hectares.
The Garden is made up of exquisitely constructed halls, pavilions, chambers, earth and rock hills, rivers and ponds, and exotic flowers and grasses from different parts of the country. It embodies the essence of Chinese ancient landscape gardening and the European-style construction. It was reclaimed by the Chinese government as an historical site in the 1980s.

- Wheelchair for rent at the gate of Yichunyuan and Changchunyuan for free but a CNY500 deposit.

- Some books about Yuanmingyuan and some Souvenirs for sale.
