Beijing Temple of Confucius Travel Guide

Temple of Confucius at Beijing is the second largest Confucian Temple in China?ranking only behind the one in Confucius' birthplace of Qufu. It was initially built in 1302 to memorize and worship Confucius,the greatest thinker and educationalist in ancient China. It is loacated in the south of An'ding Gate, a few hundred metres away from the Yonghe Lamasery.

The Temple of Confucious, once the place of the Captial Museum, was reconstructed and enlarged for many times, but on the whole it remains the construction style of Yuan Danasty. Covering a total area of 22,000 square meters, this roral ancient complex has even a longer history than the Summer Palace and it consentrats the essence of the millennium Confucian culture and the centuries-long imperial examination. It is claimed to be a key cultural relice protection unit of nationalwide.

Legend of an ancient cypress in the Temple

Inside the temple complex are more than 100 ancient trees. One is a 700 years old cypress named "Chujianbai" (Touch Evil Tree),which means that this magic tree can distinguish who is justice and who is evil.It proved it by knocking down the hat of a evil man-Yan Song a corrupt official.

How to get there:

Subway
Take subway Line 2 and get off at Yonghegong Station. Get out of the station from Exit C , then you'll find Guozijian Street where the Temple of Confucius, just about 600 meters.
Take subway Line 5 and get off at Yonghegong Station, and get out of the station from Exit D.

Bus Route
Take bus No.13, 116 or No.684 and get off at Guozijian Station.
Take bus No104, 117,108, or No.807 and get off at Yonghegong Station.
Take bus No. 13, 18, 44, 62, 75, 606, 800, or No.909 and get off at Yonghegong Bridge East Station.
