Lhasa Jokhang Temple Maps

Jokhang Temple, situated at the heart of the old town of Lhasa, is the most popular tourist attractions in Lhasa with the Potala Palace. With a prime seat of the Gelugpa of the Tibetan Buddhism, Jokhang Temple is the spiritual center of Tibet and the holiest destination for all Tibetan pilgrims.

Jokhang Temple was built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsan Gambo, the Tang Princess Wencheng and Nepalese Princess Bhrikuti. The main chapel is a four storeyed building and integrates with the architectural style of Han, Tibetan, Indian and Nepal into the more embodied of the cosmological view of buddhism, the whole temple is centered on the big chapel which is symbolized the core of universe. The Shakyamuni chapel is the heart of the Jokhang Temple.

Tips:

  1. From 08:00 to 11:30, it’s open to religious people. Tourist groups exceeding 10 people each are not allowed to enter.
  2. From 11:30 to 17:30, it’s open to tourists.
  3. The visit for tourist groups shall not exceed 1 hour.
  4. At 14:00 novice monks meet on the balcony of the 2nd floor to debate religious doctrine.
