Maps of the Southern and Northern Dynasties

After the decline of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, four successive regimes – the Song, Qi, Liang, Chen appeared in south China and five regimes emerged at almost the same time in Northern China, namely the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi and Northern Zhou. The regimes together are known as the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The Northern and Southern Dynasties period (386 AD – 589 AD) was an age of political disunity and civil war. However, it was also a time of development in culture, advancement in technology, prevalence of foreign Mahayana Buddhism, and so on.

The Southern and Northern Dynasties Maps show the territory of every dynasty with different colors in different periods and point out the majors cities.
