Chengdu City in Sichuan Province

Chengdu - the capitcal city of Sichuan province.

Located in the west of Sichuan Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain, Chengdu covers a total area of 12.3 thousand square kilometers (4,749 square miles) with a population of over 11 million. Benefiting from the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project which was constructed in 256 B.C, Sichuan province is reputed as "Tian Fu Zhi Guo", literally a place richly endowed with natural resources. The land of Chengdu is extremely fertile because of the Min and Tuo Rivers, two branches of the Yangtze River, connecting to forty other rivers, which supply abundant water resources.

The history of Chengdu can be traced back to 2,400 years ago when the first emperor built his capital here. Since then, it was one of the most prosperous cities in the ancient and modern times. The advantageous geographical location and the long historical culture endow Chengdu with numerous well-known places of natural and cultural interests. It has been the most popular destinations for the tourists to visit and explore.

Location and Topography of Chengdu

Chengdu is situated at the western edge of the Sichuan Basin. It is therefore sheltered from northwest winds from Siberia in winter by the Qinling Mountains to the north. Due to the abundant water resources, Chengdu has been the most fertile land in China. The unique topography provides Chengdu with gorgeous natural landscapes and makes it become one of the most impressive tourist destinations.

Climate of Chengdu

Chengdu enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature being about 16 degree Celsius. The distinctive feature is humidity with clouds and mist and little sunlight. The summer in Chengdu is cool in morning and evening and hot at noon, while the winter is warm and comfortable. The best time to have you tour should be from March to June and from September to November.

Railways in Chengdu

As the largest railway hub in southwest China, Chengdu Railway Station has trains to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Urumqi, Xian, etc. A tourist express train serves neighboring areas including Guangyuan City, Yibin City, and Panzhihua City.

Highways in Chengdu

The long-distance buses are more convenient for the tourists because they are more flexible and easier to take. The buses can take you to almost all cities within Sichuan province and Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha and much more cities.

Airways in Chengdu

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, about 20 kilometers from the center of Chengdu City, offers flights to more than 70 domestic cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao ,Nanjing and much more.

Travel & Sightseeing in Chengdu

Chengdu is famous for its wonderful spicy cuisine, breath-taking scenery, unique wildlife, and remarkable local culture. Chengdu provides access to some superlative local attractions: areas of glorious natural beauty such as Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, the Panda Reserve and Breeding Institute.

Wuhou Shrine
Located in the southern suburbs of Chengdu City, it was first built in the Western Jin Dynasty to commemorate Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of the Shu Han Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms period. The shrine houses 47 statues of historical figures during the Three Kingdoms period, and more than 40 upright stone tablets

Wenshu(Manjusri) Temple

Located in Wenshu Street of Chengdu City, the temple covers an area of 92 mu of the land, with more than 190 rooms or halls and other houses. In the temple, there are over 100 bronze Buddha statues; big or small, cast by famous craftsmen of the Qing Dynasty With a careful overall arrangement, the temple looks simple and magnificent.

Du Fu's Thatched Cottage
Situated in the southern suburbs of Chengdu City, it is the former residence of Du Fu, a great realistic poet of the Tang Dynasty.The main buildings include Shishi Hall, Gongbu Shrine, Tablet pavilion, etc, forming a classical garden. It covers 20 hectares and is one of the famous tourist spots with quiet environment and beautiful scenery.

 Mt. Siguniang
Situated in Xiaojin County, it is precipitous and magnificent, with its peaks covered with snow all the year round. The dense primeval forests, alpine lakes, glaciers and falls all keep their virginal scenes.
