Chongqing is the largest and most populous in the four municipalities directly under the Central Government with a total area of over 82,400 square kilometers and over 30.9 million people. Situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers in southwest China, it has been a port city for decades. Besides, the Yangtze River Cruise has become the most attractive spot in the area.

Enjoying a long history with more than 3000 years, many Dynasties have set up administrative institutions that have endowed the city with brilliant historical and cultural relics. Perched beside the Yangtze, the "Golden River," Chongqing symbolizes Yangtze River civilizations and is the cradle of Bayu culture. Today, Chongqing is a modern city with beautiful and fashionable elements everywhere. The unique Yangtze Three Gorges Dam and its advantageous location earn Chongqing as the commercial city in China.

Located on the edge of the Yungui Plateau, Chongqing is intersected by the Jialing River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze. It contains Daba Shan in the north, Wu Shan in the east, Wuling Shan in the southeast, and Dalou Mountain to the south. It is very hilly and mountainous.

At the confluence of the Yangtze River and Jialing River, Chongqing abounds waters system to develop its economy and tourism.
