Zhongshan City, located in the center of the western side of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province, is the most important waterway that connects Guangzhou with Hong Kong and Macau. Occupying an area of 1,800 square kilometers, the city is home to about 1.5 million people and more than 1 million overseas Chinese. It is named after the father of modern China – Sun Yat-sen, who lived here at his age, so, there is a series of historical tourist attractions relating to him, for example, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, the Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the Sun Yat-sen Park and even the Sun Wen Xi Road.

In the recent years, Zhongshan City has attracted huge numbers of investors from both home and abroad because of its rapid economic development, and the World Fortune Top 500 has set up more than 20 enterprises in the city, which stimulates and promotes the local tourism. It not only boasts the beautiful natural charms, such as the graceful water townships, but also consists of the cultural relics.

Location and Topography of Zhongshan

Zhongshan is located in the central Guangdong Province, occupying a central position on the western side of the Pearl River Delta. It is bordered by Guangzhou in the northeast, Foshan in the northwest, Jiangmen in the west and the Pearl River in the east.

Primary Industries

Primary productions are agricultural, including rice, lychee, banana, and sugar cane, and horticulture in Xiaolan Town, famous throughout southern China for its blooming chrysanthemum.

Manufacturing Industries

Zhongshan, together with Dongguan, Nanhai and Shunde, are dubbed as Four Little Tigers in Guangdong Province. The proximity and advantageous location of Zhongshan to Hong Kong and Macau is a support to its economic development, especially on the manufacturing industries. Most of its towns are so successful that they even earn the reputation as a leading manufacturer in their own pillar industries. Indeed, "One Industry in One Town" has become a unique economic feature in Zhongshan.

Dachong Town for mahogany furniture industry;
Dongfeng Town for electric household appliance industry;
Guzhen Town for lighting fitting products;
Huangpu Town for food industry;
Shaxi Town for casual wear manufacturing;
Xiaolan Town for locks and hardware industry, as well as electronic acoustics products

Besides, Zhongshan National Torch High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, established in 1990, has earned the reputation of Zhongshan Electronic Base of China.

There is no airport in Zhongshan City due to its proximity to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, however, there are airport lounges, providing travelers with easy access to airport shuttle buses.

Highways in Zhongshan

There is also no train service in the city, but tourists can rely on the convenient and developed bus system for their travel transport. It has the scheduled buses arriving in Hainan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hunan and Henan Provinces. Buses to Guangzhou depart once every 25 minutes; buses to Shenzhen depart once every 20 minutes.

Waterways in Zhongshan

Zhongshan City has developed a convenient maritime mode of transportation between Zhongshan and Hong Kong. Chu Kong Passengers Transport (CKS) operates ferry services between Hong Kong and cities in Guangdong Province, China. The whole journey from Zhongshan to Hong Kong International Airport takes about an hour and ten minutes.

Zhongshan, not a metropolis with shuttle and hustle life there, has its unique and charming natural and cultural tourist attractions. In order to memorize Sun Yat-sen, the great forerunner of Chinese revolution, the locals marked their admiration for the great man by constructing museums and a street in his honor: Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, the Sun Yat-sen Park and the Sun Wen Xi Road. Besides, the Wugui Mountain and the green cascade of the Yangtze River are highly appreciated by tourists.
