Chengde
Chengde, located northeast of Beijing, is a city in Hebei Province, China. With a comfortable climate, time-honored history, charming natural sceneries and historical sites, Chengde is one of the most famous tourist cities in China. It is an ideal place for sightseeing, hunting and relieving from the summer heat.
Location and topography of Chengde
Chengde’s topography is mainly comprised of plateau and mountainous regions, including Yanshan, Yinshan and Qilaotushan mountains, as well as the Luanhe, Liaohe, Chaobaihe and Jiyunhe rivers flowing through the city.
Climate in Chengde
Chengdu enjoys a temperate continental climate, which is characterized by clear distinctions among the four seasons. The annual average temperature is about 48 F (9 C) and the temperature varies a lot between night and day.
Transportation in Chengde
By Air
There is only a small airport in southern Chengde where offers chartered flights between Beijing and Chengde from time to time. Many visitors prefer to take buses from Chengde to Beijing and take a plane from Beijing Captical International Airport since Chengde is close to Beijing.
By Train
Chengde Railway Station is located in the southeast of the city proper which operates trains to cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Shenyang, Baotou, Dandong, Chifeng, Tongliao and Jinzhou, etc.
By Bus
Visitors can take buses at Chengde Long-distance Bus Station to reach cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and Zhangjiakou. Besides, buses running from Chengde Western Bus Station and Chengde Northern Bus Stationccan take visitors to every county of Chengde City, such as Weichang County, Pingguan County, Longhua County, Chifeng County, etc.
Travel & Sightseeing in Chengde
Needless to say, Chengde is most well-known for its Mountain Resort. Chengde Mountain Resort used to be a imperial summer resort during the Qing Dynasty. It becomes a popular place of interest due to its historical value as well as its beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. Except for the largest royal garden in China – the Mountain Resort, Chengdu boasts attractions such as the Eight Temple (the greatest royal temple group in the world), the Mulan Paddock (the world’s largest royal hunting place), the Kwan-yin Bodhisattva (the biggest wooden Buddha statue in the world), Jingbei No. 1 Grassland, Jinshanling Great Wall, etc.
