Cixi is a city within the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, China. It covers a total area of 1,154 sq. km. Seventeen towns and three subdistricts are under the jurisdiction of Cixi City. Cixi boast many historical and cultural attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Location and topography of Cixi
Situated on the coastal region of East China Sea and the south bank of Grand Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Cixi City enjoys its location at the central place of the Hangzhou Bay Rim economic circle of Yangtze River Delta among Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo. It is only 60 km from Ningbo in the east, 148 km from Shanghai in the north and 138 km from Hangzhou in the west.
Climate in Cixi
Cixi has a subtropical monsoon climate, with four distinctive seasons. Winter and summer here are a bit longer than spring and autumn. The yearly average temperature is about 61.3ºF (16.3ºC). The highest average temperature is about 82.786ºF (28.2ºC) in July while the lowest is about 39.74ºF (about 4.3ºC) in January.
Transportation in Cixi
Since there are no direct flights or passenger trains to Cixi, travelers can get to Ningbo by train or by air first and then transfer to Cixi by bus. Ningbo Northern Bus Station offers buses to Cixi Eastern Bus Station with a charge of 16 yuan, while Ningbo Southern Bus Station provides buses to Cixi Passenger Transport Center charging 19 yuan per person. Yet many people choose to arrive at Yuyao by train and then transfer to Cixi by bus. Bus No. 102 near Yuyao Railway Station can take you to Yuyao Northern Bus Station where you can take a nonstop bus to Cixi.
Travel & Sightseeing in Cixi
Nature has endowed Cixi with abundant charming sceneries, and history has left her numerous cultural relics as well as a profound cultural connotation. Among the topic are Shanglin Lake Site of Yue Kiln, Mount Wulei Scenic Spot, Minghe Ancient Town, Du Lake and Baiyang Lake. The Shanglin Lake Site of Yue Kiln, located at the hilly land of Mt. Cuiping, is considered as the cradle of the culture of celadon of Yue Kiln in China. There are over 120 sites of ancient kiln and enormous piles of porcelain distributed on the charming bank of Shanglin Lake. The Mont Wulei Scenic Spot integrates mountains, waters and Buddhist culture into one. The Wulei Temple is well-known as the No. 1 ancient Buddhist temple in the eastern Zhejiang Province with a history of more than 1,700 years. Minghe Ancient Town enjoys a reputation of "Scene at Minghe is better than Suzhou". The Du Lake and Baiyang Lake are also called Sisters Lakes according to their short distance. Landscapes here hold the same attraction as historical and cultural sites.
