Location and topography of Dali

Located in the west of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, Dali is 186 miles (about 300 km) away from the provincial capital city Kunming and is encircled by mountains on the east, west, and south with the Erhai Lake in its center.

Dali enjoys a plateau monsoon climate with an annual temperature of 59ºF (15ºC). Temperatures in Dali are generally moderate, so Dali is popular tourist destination all the year round.

By Air

Dali Huangcaoba Airport, 8 miles (about 13 km) from Dali City, has flights to many major cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guiyang, etc.

By Train

Dali Railway Station only runs trains between Dali and Kunming and there are five trains daily. The station is located in Yunling Street and can be reached by city buses No. 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11.

By Bus

The main bus station in Dali is the Dali Bus Station which serves Kunming and Lijiang, and many other cities out of Yunnan Province, such as Panzhihua and Putian. Visitors also can take buses in other bus station according to their own schedules. City buses here extend in all directions. Therefore, traveling around by bus is of convenience.

Travel & Sightseeing in Dali

Dali boasts an abundance of tourist attractions with its heaven-endowed scenery. Among the highlights are Mt. Cangshan and Erhai Lake. Other attractions mostly lie between these two spots, such as Butterfly Spring and Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple. Moreover, the ethnic minorities create a unique culture which provide good opportunities for tourists to learn about folk customs. Dali Tai He City, Xizhou Town, Zhoucheng Village, etc. are some historical sites that worth the effort of visiting.
