Dujiangyan used to be a county named Guan County. "Guan" literally means irrigation in Chinese. Later it is renamed in honor of the Dujiangyan Irrigation System and became a county-level city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province in China. Dujiangyan, on the one hand, is a rising industrial city; on the other hand, it's a tourist destination with scenic areas famous in home and abroad.
Location and topography of Dujiangyan
Dujiangyan is located in northwest of Chengdu Plain and is about 30 miles (48 km) away from Chengdu (the capital of Sichuan Province). It covers an total area of 1,280 sq. km.
Climate in Dujiangyan
Dujiangyan belongs to a humid subtropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 59ºF (about 15ºC). The climate here is pleasant.
Transportation in Dujiangyan
Dujiangyan Transportation Center is a bus station where operates buses to Chengdu City and to Mt. Qingcheng. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is only a 20-minute drive to Dujiangyan.

Dujiangyan is famous for its irrigation project – Dujiangyan Irrigation Project. Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, the oldest irrigation system in the world, is an ancient technological wonder of China. The project has been benefited local people for more than 2000 years. Except for Dujiangyan Project, Mt. Qingcheng was placed on the World Culture Heritage List in 2000. Mt. Qingcheng is the origin and spiritual center of Taoism. Other attractions include Erwang Temple (Two King's Temple), Fulong Temple (Dragon-Taming Temple), Anlan Suspension Bridge, Longchi National Forest Garden, etc.
