Guilin - most beautiful place in China
Just as Xian is a must when you travel to China, so is Guilin. Situated in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it encompasses 27,797 square kilometers boasting a population of 4.79 million. Although Guilin is compact when compared with other leading China cities, it will present the tourists with strangely shaped hills, crystal clear waters, unique caves and beautiful stones.
Guilin is also an important cultural city with a history covering more than 2000 years. The city has been the political, economic and cultural center of Guangxi since the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Besides, there are many ethnic minorities like Zhuang,Yao, Hui, Miao, Mulao, and Dong, which enriches the cultural life of the city. Each minority has its own unique customs and festivals and this means that they are much more abundant here than in many other places elsewhere in China. Location and Topography of Guilin
Located in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin is considered to be the pearl of China's thriving tourist industry on account of the natural beauty and historic treasures.
The terrain of Guilin is mountainous with the highest peak Mount Mao’er at an altitude of 2,141m, while many rivers cut through the series of mountains, among which the most attractive is the Lijiang River. The unique mountains and gorgeous waters make Guilin as the top tourist destination in China, as the saying says "Guilin scenery is the best under heaven".

Guilin enjoys a sub-tropical monsoon climate with four mild and distinctive seasons. The weather in January is the coolest with an average temperature of 7.9?. July is the hottest with an average temperature of 28.3?. The optimum time to travel in Guilin is from April to October with the most comfortable climate to entertain the tourists.

Railways in Guilin
There are two stations-Guilin Railway Station and Guilin North Railway Station. The City bus NO.3, 4, 10, 16 can take you the Guilin Railway Station, while there is no public bus for the North Railway Station, so you can take the taxi. Many trains depart and arrive, as Guilin City is the railroad hub of Central China and is in the central part of the Hunan-Guangxi Railway Line.
Airports in Guilin
Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is about 28 kilometers from the city center. About 50 airlines connect Guilin with domestic cities as well as foreign countries such as Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, etc.
Highways in Guilin
The chief Bus Station is at NO.427 Zhongshan Road, just a 10 minutes’ walk from the Guilin Railway Station. You can take city bus NO. 1, 3, 10, 11, 22 or 51. Most buses set off from this station for surrounding cities in Guangxi, Guangdong and Hunan provinces.

Lijiang (Li River)
Lying in the upper reaches of /guijiang River, the Lijiang River is a worldfamous scenic area. Its 88km long section from Guilin to Yangshuo is unusually charming, forming an important part of Guilin scenery.
