As the capital and center of politic, economy, culture and transport of Guizhou province, Guiyang covers a total area of 8034 square kilometers, with a population of 3.3157 million. It is home to more than 30 minorities ethnic groups including Miao, Buyi, Dog and Hui, etc, thus, the city abounds with unique folk culture and tradition that give rise to many colorful ethnic minority activities, and the souvenirs such as the festival costumes, masks and embroideries are also very populous with tourists. Location and Topography of Guiyang
Located in the southwest China, on the eastern side of the Yungui Plateau, Guiyang is situated on the Nanming River, a headstream of the Wu River, which eventually joins the Yangtze River at Fuling in Sichuan province. It has an average elevation of about 1,100 meters.
Guiyang got its name because it lies to the south of Guisan Mountain. In the Chinese language, "Gui" refers to the Guisan Mountain, and "Yang" means "south", therefore, "Guiyang" means the "south of Guisan Mountain". It is said that the area is almost covered by the bamboos, so it is alos famous for "Zhu".

Guiyang enjoys a pleasant moist subtropical climate with sufficient sunlight and plenty of rainfall due to its geographical features. There is no extreme heat in summer and overly cold in winter. The annual average temperature is about 15 degree Celsius, and July is the highest month of the year with an average temperature of 24 degree Celsius while January is the coldest one, averaging a temperature of 4.6 degree Celsius. So, all of the year are available to plan your tour in Guiyang, most of the minorities festivals are generally held in March or April.

Guiyang acts as the transportation links with four railways passing through Guiyang reaching Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Liuzhou, Kunming, Zhuzhou and more. Besides, the trains are also available to the tourist destinations such as Fanjing Mountain, Huangguoshu waterfall, Zunyi, Kaili and Duyun Cities.

Guiyang Tourist Bus Station opposte Qianling Dasha deals with tourist bus services only. Buses from here mainly reach the places of interest within Guizhou province shuch as the Huangguoshu Waterfall, the Dragon Palace Cave Scenic Spot, Zhijin Cave Scenic Spot and the Fanjing Mountain. There are also many buses to the nearby provinces such as Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Chongqing.

Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport is connected to more than 40 domestic cities and offers flights to Hong Kong, Macau and Bangkok.
