Kowloon is the paradise of shops, bars, and hotels, not only popular with tourists but also with inhabitants of Hong Kong Island who can easily take the ferry to this melting-pot of everything relating to spending your money. Besides the important shopping areas including the shops and street markets around Nathan Road and Mong Kok, there is an abundance of bars and cafes. Additionally, there are a few nice temples tourists can appreciate, such as the world-famous Wong Tai Temple, and a couple of quite interesting museums.

History of Kowloon
The name of Kowloon came from the nine dragons represented by eight peaks and a Chinese emperor: Kowloon Peak, Tung Shan, Tate's Cairm, Temple Hill, Unicorn Ridge, Lion Rock, Beacon Hill, Crow's Nest and Emperor Bing.
Location & Geography
Between Hong Kong Island and New Territories is located north of Hong Kong Island and south of the mainland part of the New Territories, an important part of the bustling city with an area of about 47 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Lei Yue Mun strait in the east, Mei Foo Sun Chuen and Stonecutter's Island in the west, Tate's Caim and Lion Rock in the north, and Victoria Harbor in the south. It comprises the following districts: Kowloon City (Ho Man Tin, Hung Hom, Kai Tak, Kowloon Tong, Ma Tau Wai, To Kwa Wan, Whampoa Garden, and the Proper Kowloon City), Kwun Tong (Kwun Tong, Ngau Tau Kok, Kowloon Bay, Sau Mau Ping, Pak Tin, Yau Tong, and Lei Yue Mun), Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Yau Tsim Mong (Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Mong Kok).

Ferry in Hong Kong Island
The Star Ferry is the classic way to get to Hong Kong Island from Kowloon, and there are four routes operated by the Star Ferry Company.
1. Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon –Central, Hong Kong Island – the busiest route by far and only 2.2/1.7 dollars on the upper/lower deck. The upper deck might get you air-condition, but the views are better from the windowless lower deck.
2. Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon – Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island;
3. Hung Hom, Kowloon – Central, Hong Kong Island;
4. Hung Hom, Kowloon – Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island;
Besides, New World First Ferry operates some other routes between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon: Hung Hom, Kowloon – North Point, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon City, Kowloon – North Point, Hong Kong Island.
MTR in Kowloon
The Island Line of the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) underground railway network runs exclusively in Kowloon, from West to East, along the northern coastline of the island. However, the western part of the island is not yet served by the railway. The government and MTR have planned to extend the island Line to Kennedy Town, the western tip of the island. The extension has started in 2008 and will be in operation in 2012.

As the urban area in Hong Kong, comprising the Kowloon Peninsula and New Kowloon, there are a lot of tourist attractions for tourists to enjoy in Kowloon District. It is encircled by the Victoria Harbor on the east, south and west sides and tourists can experience its sparkling delights, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok. The Star Ferry can be both inexpensive and romantic, and a ride on the ferry provides the optimum angle from which to snap fantastic views of the harbor for shutterbugs.
