Jiayuguan

Jiangyuguan City is located in the northwest of Gansu Province, China. It is built near the Jianyuguan Pass and is most famous of the Jiayuguan Pass. Jiayuguan is a city of charm. Visitors can experience an exotic tour in this melting pot of varied nationalities and outstanding masterpieces of man and nature.

Location and topography of Jiayuguan

Covering an area of 1,298 sq. km, Jiayuguan City is situated in the middle of the Hexi Corridor, bounded by the Qilian Mountain on the south, the Mazong (Horse's Mane) Mountains on the north, the Jiuquan Basin on the east, and the Gobi desert on the north.

Climate in Jiayuguan

Jiayuguan belongs to a temperate continental desert climate with an annual temperature of about 45ºF (7.2ºC). All in all, summer here is hot and winter cold.

Transportation in Jiayuguan

By Air

Jiayuguan Airport is located in the northeast of Jiayuguan City and about 7.4 miles (12 km) away from the downtown. It offers flights to Dunhuang City, Lanzhou City, Urumchi City and Xi'an City.

By Train

Jiayuguan Railway Station is about 3.1 miles (5 km) from the downtown. Trains to Urumuchi, Lanzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Xi'an are available. Moreover, there are trains can can take you further to Russia and other northern European countries through the Europe-Asia Continental Bridge and passing the Alashan Pass in Xinjiang.

By Bus

The long-distance bus station of Jiayuguan lies on the main highway of the city proper and it rus buses to Dunhuang, Lanzhou, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Gulmud, etc.

Travel & Sightseeing in Jiayuguan

Jiayuguan is an important city of tourism on the ancient Silk Road. Highlights of Jiayuguan City include the Jiayuguan Pass (the largest and most intact pass of the Great Wall), the Wei-Jin Art Gallery (the largest underground gallery of tombs with rarefied wall painting), the First Beacon Tower of the Great Wall, the Overhanging Great Wall, the Great Wall Museum, and the Gobi desert.
