Jinan - Shandong Capital City

As the capital of Shandong Province, Jinan has been the center of history, economy, culture and transportation of Shandong. Although Jinan is not a hot tourist destination like the other cities like Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, and Guilin, it has special stuff to offer, such as the 72 springs scattered throughout the city, as the China's City of Spring. The natural beauties attract more and more tourists from the modern metropolises to the city for enjoying the relaxing life.

Jinan is a historical city with a history of some 2000 years and is famed for its numerous relics. It is the cradle of the Longshan Relics Culture, the reputed prehistoric culture of China and is found in Longshan Town of Jinan, hence the name. In the area of Jinan, you will find far more than you would expect, the ancient Great Wall of the Qi State (a state of the Zhou Dynasty (770B.C. – 221B.C.)), the colored sculptures of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) in the Lingyan Temple and so on.

Location and Topography of Jinan

Jinan is located in the north-western part of Shandong Province, occupies a transition zone between the northern foothills of the Taishan Mountain to the south of the city and the valley of the Yellow River to the north. Karst aquifers in limestone formations sloping down from the south to the north give rise to many artesian springs in the city area.

Climate of Jinan

Because Jinan's geographical location falls within the warm temperate continental monsoon climate zone, Jinan has four distinct seasons. The city is dry and rainless in spring, hot and rainy in summer, crisp in autumn and dry and cold in winter. The average annual temperature is 14.2°C, and the annual rainfall is around 675 mm. January is the coldest and driest month, the monthly averages are -5.4°C for the daily minimum temperature, 3.6°C for the daily maximum temperature. July is the warmest and wettest month; the corresponding numbers are 23.5°C, 32.6°C. the best time to plan your tour should be the spring and autumn.

Jinan Railway Station, the largest in Shandong Province, has railway lines Beijing-Shanghai and Qingdao-Jinan passing and stopping at Jinan City. The tourists can reach more than 20 major cities in China from Jinan like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao and much more.

Highways in Jinan

Beijing-Shanghai, Jinan-Qingdao, Jinan-Liaocheng and four national highways, Beijing-Fuzhou, Binzhou-Zhenghzou, Qingdao-Shijiazhuang and Rongcheng-Lanzhou all pass by Jinan. Jinan is the highways transportation hub in China.

Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport is one of China's greatest airports, and the largest passenger airport in Shandong Province, with more than 54 domestic and international airlines being opened.

Jinan is well-known as one of the attraction destinations in China, mostly due to its splendid historical and cultural relics and the unique springs scattered around the city. The most populous places of interest include the Baotu Spring Park, Daming Lake Park, Qianfoshan (Thousand-Buddha Mountain) and Shandong Provincial Museum. Besides, the people in Jinan are hospitable and their life pace is low and relaxing so as to make the tourists feel the exotic life style.
