Kaifeng

Kaifeng is a city in the east of Henan Province. It is one of the major centers of ancient Chinese civilization. It was once the capital of the kingdom of Wei, Later Liang, Later Han, Later Zhou, Northern Song Dynasty, the Jin Dynasty. Therefore, it not only get the nickname "the Capitals of Seven Dynasties", but also forms a unique culture.

Location and topography of Kaifeng

Kaifeng is located at the east Henan Plain and on the southern bank of the Yellow River. It borders Zhengzhou (the provincial capital) to the west, Xinxiang to the northwest, Shangqiu to the east, Zhoukou to the southeast, Xuchang to the southwest, and Shandong Province to the northeast.

Climate in Kaifeng

Kaifeng belongs to a temperate continental monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of about 57ºF (14ºC). September and October are the best seasons to visit Kaifeng while Kaifeng welcomes the Chrysanthemum Fair.

Kaifeng Railway Station runs trains to many cities, such as Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Xian, Xuzhou, Shangqiu, etc.

By Bus

Highway is the most convenient traffic pass-way of Kaifeng. There are routes connecting Kaifeng with Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Sanmenxia, Shangqiu, Xuchang , Luohe, Zhumadian to Shenzhen, etc. City-buses within Kaifeng extend in all directions and reach most of the streets.

Travel & Sightseeing in Kaifeng

Due to its rich history, Kaifeng boasts many attractions for visitors. Among the highlights are Iron Pagoda (also named Youguosi Pgada, the oldest landmark in this ancient city), Lord Bao Temple (an excellent example of a complex built in the architectural style of the Song Dynasty), and Xiangguo Temple (of the ten famous ancient Buddhist temples in China). Other attractions include Dragon Pavilion, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Imperial Street of Song Dynasty, Kaifeng Yamun, Kaifeng Museum, etc. Moreover, Kaifeng is also known for having the oldest extant Jewish community in China, the Kaifeng Jews.
