Leshan City is in the southwest part of Sichuan Province, China and about 74.6 miles (120 km) away from Chengdu City. Leshan is always a tempting tourist destination for those interested in exploring splendid natural scenery and Leshan's considerable historical and cultural heritage.

Location and topography of Leshan

Leshan City sits on the junction of the Min, Dadu and Qingyi Rivers and it is on the southwestern part of the Red Basin in Sichuan.

Climate in Leshan

Leshan enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate moist climate with an annual average temperature of about 63ºF (17.2 ºC).

Transportation in Leshan

By Water

Leshan Port is located to the east of Leshan City. There are regular ferries to Leshan Giant Buddha and Wuyou Temple. Tourists can also take ships to Chongqing and other cities in Sichuan Province like Yibin, Luzhou, etc.

By Bus

Leshan Central Bus Station, Leshan Port Sight-seeing Bus Station and Leshan Lianyun Bus Station (Chengbei Bus Station) are three main long-distance bus stations which run buses to many other places such as Chongqing, Jiuzhaigou, Mt. Emeishan, Zigong, Luzhou, Mianyang, Ya'an, Jianwei County, Luocheng Town, Ebian County, etc. There are eight bus lines within Leshan City and it’s easy to reach most main streets.

Travel & Sightseeing in Leshan

Leshan was known as Jiazhou in ancient times. As an ancient saying goes, Sichuan has the best scenery in the world while Jiazhou tops that of Sichuan. It simply give expression to the charm of Leshan. If a shortlist of Leshan's attractions was to be drawn up, the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area (including the Giant Sleeping Buddha) and nearby Mount Emei Scenic Area would be the top. The Leshan Giant Buddha is the biggest seated Maitreya Buddha in the world. Maitreya is the future Buddha. This statue is of great religious significance and was created in the belief that it would influence the turbulent waters of the rivers and protect shipping. Mt. Emei is one of Four Buddhist Mountains and one of the highest mountains in China. Other beautiful attractions in Leshan include Fairy Pool Scenic Area, Jinkou Grand Canyon, etc.
