Qiandongnan's Location of Guizhou

Qiandongnan

The full name of Qiandongnan is Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. It is an autonomous prefecture of Guizhou Province, China. Qiandongnan is comprised of one city (its capital Kaili) and 15 counties. With 38 minority groups living together, Qiandongnan is certainly an ideal place to explore distinctive folk-customs and the picturesque landscape.

Location and topography of Qiandongnan

Located in the southeastern part of Guizhou Province, Qiandongnan borders Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zunyi City and Tongren Region within the province. Qiandongnan's main terrain is higher in the north, south and west while lower in the east. Mountainous region occupies over eighty-seven percent of the prefecture's total area while Karst landform are widely distributed here.

Climate in Qiandongnan

Qiandongnan has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with an annual average temperature ranging from 57.2ºF (14ºC) to 64.4ºF (18ºC). Due to the different geographic location and terrain, the temperature in south and east is higher than in the north and west.

Transportation in Qiandongnan

The Hunan-Guizhou Railway, the Guizhou-Guangxi Railway, State Highway 320 (Shanghai-Ruili) and State Highway 321 (Guangzhou-Chengdu) run through Kaili (the capital city of Qiandongnan) and connect Qiandongnan with many major cities such as Guiyang, Nanning, Changsha and Guangzhou. There are also express highways connecting Kaili with Guiyang. In addition, Kaili is within two hours drive of Guiyang Longdongbao Airport.

Travel & Sightseeing in Qiandongnan

Qiandongnan is famous for its colorful festivals and folk customs. There are more than 200 folk festivals and fairs held in the prefecture, including the Chixin Festival of the Miao people, the Sanyuesan (March 3) Song Festival of the Dong people, the Duanjie Festival of the Shui people, and the Panwang Festival of the Yao people. Qiandongnan’s natural beauties are as equally attractive as its spectacular customs. Among the highlights are the Wuyang River National Scenery Area, the Liping Dong Town National Scenery Area, the Shibing Fir River, the Huangping Yedong River, and the Jianhe Hot Spring. moreover, architectures like the Drum Tower and the Wind & Rain Tower reflect strong local flavor.
