Qingdao - "pearl on the Yellow Sea"
Qingdao, as a picturesque coastal city, lies on the southern tip of China's Shandong Peninsula, located in JiaoZhou Bay facing the Yellow Sea. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Qingdao hosted the Sailing Competition of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and attracted numerous tourists from all over the world. Qingdao has been the top tourist destination due to its charming seascape, and the Government has sponsored the Qingdao International Beer Festival, Qingdao International Sea Festival, Beach Culture Festival, Sea Affection Festival and the Summer of Qingdao Festival. The tourists coming to Qingdao can swim in the sea, drink Tsingtao Beer, eat fried clams and climb Mt. Laoshan. It was recently named as the 9th-most livable city by the China Daily.
Qingdao had been a colony of Germany and Japan for almost 32 years until the foundation of the new China in 1949. Thus, there are amount of European architecture. The remnant of the colonial past now beautifies the seaside city.
Location and Topography of Qingdao
Qingdao is located on the south facing coast of the Shandong Peninsula bordering Yantan to the northeast, Weifang to the west and Rizhao to the southwest. Although the terrain of the city is mountainous and hilly, the populated sections are relatively flat. The highest elevation is 1133m above the sea level. Qingdao boasts a 730.64 kilometer coastline creating the most attractive seascapes for the tourists and the inhabitants.
Just because of the advantageous geographical location, Qingdao is the home of many famous companies home and abroad such as the Tsingtao Brewery, Haier, Hisense and the Guitar manufacturer Epiphone.
Climate of Qingdao
Neighboring the Yellow Sea, Qingdao city enjoys a temperate monsoon climate with distinct marine features. All four seasons in Qingdao are mild without extreme cold or hot temperatures. Generally the golden travel period is from the end of March to early November. Due to the mild seawater temperature, the last ten days of August are the best times for seaside traveling. Qingdao air is temperate and humid with abundant rainfall, and the temperature differences during a day are slight. The hottest season is in August with the average temperature of 25.1 C (77.2 F) and the coldest in January with the average temperature of 0.9 C below zero (30.4 F).
Transportation in Qingdao
Every day, there are more than thirty trains operating between Qingdao and orther major cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuchang, Nanchang, Xuzhou, Zhengzhou, Xian, Lanzhou Xining, Chengdu and much more within Shandong province or out of it.

The long-distance of Qingdao buses can reach almost all the cities in Shandong Province and the nearby cities in the other provinces easily.

Qingdao Liuting International Airport, located in Chengyang District about 23 kilometers from the downtown area, boasts nearly 96 national and international airlines serving 48 destinations both at home and abroad.
Travel & Sightseeing in Qingdao
Qingdao, a famous and important tourist destination and international trade site, is now attracting more and more travelers and the businessmen from all over the world. The beautiful coastal city has many to see. The first must-see attraction is Zhan Bridge, one of the important symbols of Qingdao. Huiquan Bathing Place, also called First Bathing Place, is in Huiquan Bay, famous for soft sands, limpid seawater and mild waves. Other major places of interest include Mt. Laoshan, Qingdao International Beer Festival, Badaguan Scenic Area and Qingdao Seashore Scenic Area.
