Shenzhen - the sister city of Hong Kong

Neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong (located just south of Shenzhen) earns advantageous location for Shenzhen and its economic development. In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in Shenzhen, which helped Shenzhen become a delighted and rapid economic growth city from then on. It was divided into six zones, four of which are located in the Special Economic Zone. Its fast development makes more and more people come to try to find employment, which results in the population swell.

Although Shenzhen does not have as many historical attractions as other famous cities in China, like Xian, Beijing, it has created a number of excellent theme parks which entertain and teach the visitors about China and the World, which wins the reputation of the Garden City Award in 2000. While Shenzhen has to overcome a number of obstacles resulting from the population crowd, it has also benefited from the increased diversity, bringing with them their local traditions and cuisines.

Location of Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province, on the eastern shore of the Pearl River Delta. Covering an area of 2,050 square kilometers, it boasts a population of over 8,615,500 investigated at the end of 2007.
Shenzhen was used to be a hilly fishing village, and now it has become an extremely important economic zone and one of the greatest growing cities in the world after the introduction of special economic zone. Besides, it is also the second busiest port in Mainland China, ranking only after Shanghai.

Climate of Shenzhen

Located at about the Tropical of Cancer and ruled by the subtropical marine climate, Shenzhen has a mild temperature as well as plentiful sunshine and rainfall all year round. The average temperature is about 22.4℃. The summers are long but not overly hot, and the winters are short and relatively warm, which helps Shenzhen to be the ideal tourist destination in any season. However, there is always the Typhoon to influence the area. So, the best time to have your tour should be from August to September.

Subways in Shenzhen

Shenzhen becomes the 6th Chinese City with metro, after Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tianjin, and Guangzhou. Railways in Shenzhen

Luohua Railway Station, also the Shenzhen Railway Station, has the most frequent trains to the other cities of China, like Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Hankou, Wuchang and Changsha, etc. there are three important passes opened to tourists who travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the Luohua Pass, the Huanggang Pass and the Luomazhou Pass.

Airways in Shenzhen

The main airport is the Shenzhen Airport. There are about 107 international and internal airlines opened presently, connecting it with 80 other cities both home and abroad.

Highways in Shenzhen

Three main bus stations in Shenzhen are Shenzhen Bus Station, Futian Bus Station, and Luohu Bus Station, departing to Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Hubei, Anhui, Hainan and Sichuan provinces as well as the other cities of Guangdong Province.

Buses 1, 7, 12, 17, 25, 38, 101, 102, 205, 32, K302 and 352 can take you to the Bus Stations.

Waterways in Shenzhen

There are 8 passengers transport ports in Shenzhen, and Shekou Port is most convenient with four regular lines to and from Zhuhai, Macau, Hong Kong and Hong Kong International Airport.

Bus routes to Shekou Port in Shenzhen City: 113, K113, 226, 204, K204, 331, 31, 332, 329, 328, 355.

Travel & Sightseeing in Shenzhen

Shenzhen does not have many history and natural beauties to entertain the visitors as many of the other big cities in China, but it has, in recent years, compensated by developing excellent theme parks and man-made scenic spots. It is so successful for the modern financial and commercial metropolis to draw in crowds of tourists. The top attractions include Splendid China, the China Folk Culture Villages, Window of the World, and the Happy Valley.
