Shizuishan

Shizuishan is a prefecture-level city in the northern part of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. As the second biggest city in Ningxia province, it borders Inner Mongolia in the north and neighbors the provincial capital city of Yinchuan in the south. Shizuishan is the middle reaches of the Yellow River, and adjoins Yinchuan Plain in the west and Ordos Terrace in the east. Dawukou and Huinong districts and Pingluo county are under Shizuishan's administration.

Shizuishan Climate

Shizuishan has a temperate continental climate and a big temperature difference between day and night. The yearly average temperature is 41ºF (5ºC) to 48.2ºF (9ºC). The best time to go is from September to October when the weather neither hot nor chilly.

Shizuishan Transportation

Shizuishan is about 62 miles (80 km) away from the Yinchuan Hedong Airport located in Yinchuan City. The airport offers regular flights to most major cities.
State Highway 109, State Highway 110 and the Shizuishan-Zhongning Expressway run across Shizuishan. Dawukou Bus Station runs buses to Yinchuan city every few minutes. Buses to Sand Lake depart per hour. It also offers buses to the airport.

What to see in Shizuishan

Shahu (Sand Lake) Scenic Area: It is well-known as a tourist site combining South China water towns and desert landscape. It is also a paradise for birds and fish.

Helan Mountain Rock Painting: The rock paintings are a treasure house recording the ancient Chinese culture, art and history. The works are done by different nationalities of different times and have various eye-catching themes such as nomadic life, sacrifice to gods, genital worship, etc.

Beiwudang National Park: Located at the east foot of the Helan Mountains, it is a ecotourism area boasting Dawukou Forest Park, Beiwudang Geological Park, Beiwudang Temple, ancient tree fossil, etc.

Yuhuang Pavilion: Situated in Pingluo county, it is built in the Ming Dynasty and is the largest Taoist site in Ningxia Province.
