Location and Topography of Suzhou

Situated in the Jiangsu Province, Suzhou is adjacent to Jiangsu Province in the south, Shanghai in the east, Zhejiang Province in the south, Wuxi City in the west and the Yangtze River in the north.

Located in the center of the Yangtze River Delta and possessing a vast number of ponds and streams such as the Taihu Lake, one of four largest fresh lakes in China, Suzhou is praised as the “Oriental Venice”, and 42% of its area is covered by water. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from north to south cuts through it.

Climate of Suzhou

Located in a subtropical monsoon zone, Suzhou has a mild and moist climate with four distinct seasons. The spring and autumn are relatively pleasant with the cooler and fresh weather, while the winters are cloudy, damp and cold and the summers are hot and humid. The average temperature is about 22? with an average temperature 28?in July and 5? in January.

Almost all the trains running on the Hu-Ning (Shanghai-Nanjing) Railway stop at the Suzhou Railway Station. It has the quite advanced and convenient railways to connect it with every major cities and famous destinations in China.

Suzhou is known as the “Southeast Gate” to Shanghai and Zhejiang Province owning to its well-developed highway network. Suzhou has three long-distance bus stations possessing the most bus routes to Anhui, Hubei, Fujian, Shandong, Jiangxi and Zhejiang Provinces.

Airways in Suzhou

Although Suzhou has not yet its own International Airport, the tourists can take advantage of the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport. There are a lot of buses to take the tourists to there.
