Taipei - capital city of Taiwan
Taipei has served as the de facto capital of the Republic of China, commonly known as Taiwan since the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Presently, it is the capital city of Taiwan Province and the hub of Taiwan’s economy, politic, culture and transportation. Taipei City, Taipei County and Keelung City together form the Taipei Metropolitan area but are administered under different local government bodies.
Taipei was founded in the early 18th century and became an important center for overseas trade in the 19th century. The Japanese acquired Taiwan in 1895 after the First Sino-Japanese War and made Taipei the island's capital. The Republic of China took over the island in 1945 after Japan's defeat in World War II. Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek declared Taipei the provisional capital of the Republic of China in December 1949 after Kuomintang (KMT) was defeated by Communists during the Chinese Civil War. The KMT retreated to Taiwan and the jurisdiction of the Republic of China was limited to Taiwan while the Communist Party founded the People's Republic of China in mainland China.
Location and Topography of Taipei
Taipei City is located in the Taipei Basin in northern Taiwan. It is bordered by the Xindian River, and is situated in the Taipei Basin in northern Taiwan. It is bordered by the Xindian River on the south, and the Danshui (Tamsui) River on the west. The northern districts of Shilin and Beitou extend north of the Keelung River and are bordered by Yangmingshan National Park. The Taipei city limits cover an area ranked sixteenth of twenty-five among all counties and cities in Taiwan. Cising Mountain is located on the Datun Volcano Group and is the tallest Mountain at the rim of the Taipei Basin. Its main peak is 1,120 m tall.
Climate of Taipei
The tropic of Cancer runs through the middle of Taiwan Province bringing Taipei with tropical and subtropical climate. The annual average temperature is about 22 degree Celsius just similar to the weather of Yunnan, Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces. The hottest month is July with an average temperature being about 28 degree Celsius, while the coldest month is March with an average temperature being about 15 degree Celsius. The best time to plan your tour should be from March to June and From September to the next March.

Airways in Taipei
Taoyuan International Airport is located 40 kilometers south of the city centre as the largest airport with convenient facilities and services. There are airlines which can take you to all the major cities in Mainland and Taiwan Province such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Gaoxiong, Tainan and much more. Besides, it provides the services with a bank, hotel reservations, car hire, shops, beauty salon, massage and basic restaurants and more.
Railways in Taipei
The New Taiwan High Speed Rail Link runs north-south from Taipei to Kaoshiung. The link has made it possible to travel in comfort from one end of Taiwan to the other in less than three hours at speeds of up to 300kph.
Waterways in Taipei
The ports of Taichung, Hualien and Suao are only visited by cargo ships. Weekly international passenger ferries run between the Taiwanese Keelung and Kaohsiung ports and Naha, the capital of the southern Japanese-island of Okinawa. The overnight ferry, which takes from 16 to 20 hours to reach Keelung, departs from Okinawa on Thursday or Friday.
Highways in Taipei
Since Taian is an island, you cannot go there by buses or cars. But there are two highways running north to south connecting all the cities and counties within Taiwan with Taipei City.
