Xian - the capital city of Shanxi Provinc

As the capital of Shaanxi Province, one of the birthplaces of Chinese Civilization, Xian is located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. There are four ancient cities in the World being Rome in Italy, Athens in Greece, Cairo in Egypt and Xian in China. As capitals of 13 ancient dynasties and owning a history of more than 3,100 years like a living history book, it has been filled with the amazing historical and cultural wonders. Xian residents pay most attention to the art and their local arts and crafts cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The cultural and historical significance of Xian helps Shaanxi province earn the laudatory title "Natural History Museum". It is the home of ancient Temples and Pagodas, of which the most attractive one is the museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, raised as "the eighth major miracle of the world". Presently, Xian has been the top tourist destination all around the world and an endless treasure house of historical and cultural relics to be seen and explored.

Location and Topography of Xian

Located in the southern part of the Guandong Plain, Xian is bounded by the Qinling Mountains to the south and the Weihe River to the north, and it has a favorable geographical location surrounded by waters and hills. Just because of its advantageous location, Xian has the chance to hold so much tourist attractions for the travelers and visitors.

Traditionally, Xian downtown refers to the area circled by the City Wall, but now it has expanded to the second ring road. The Bell Tower is the geographical center of Xian and the four main streets are respectively Eastern Street, Western Street, Northern Street and Southern Street.

Climate of Xian

Xian is a located in a warm temperature zone, and enjoys a continental monsoon climate featured with four distinctive seasons. The spring is warm and full of sunshine everywhere; the summer is not overly hot but rainy which decreased the heat; the autumn is the most favorable season to have your tour with cooler and pleasant weather and the winter is cold but rarely has snow.

In ancient times, Xian was the beginning of the Silk Road, as one of the transport junctions in China.

Xian Railway Station, enjoying the reputation of "the Gateway of West", is the most vital terminals of the domestic Railway Network serving a connecting link between the east and west of China. Presently, there are about 190 scheduled trains passing by or stooping here daily connecting it with all of the major cities and tourist destinations in China.

Xian is referred as the second largest highway transportation hub in China, supported by five national highways of 345 kilometers and twelve provincial freeways of 266 kilometers. As long as the tourists know what their destinations are, there are the right buses for them to choose.

Xian has been the most popular tourist city in China and the World owing to its brilliant historical and cultural relics with many spectacular documents and a plethora of ancient ruins and tombs in the vicinity. The top attractions include the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses, the City Wall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum, Forest of Stone Steles and the Mount Huashan.
