Xidi
First built during the Song Dynasty, Xidi is a small village in Yi County (Yixian), and has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the village of Hongcun. For over a thousand years, the traditional village of Xidi still retain its antiquity and elegancy. It is precious that Xidi preserves the non-urbanized appearance and a pristine lifestyle. For tourists from modern metropolises, Xidi is an ideal place to experience a feeling of simplicity and leisure.
Location and topography of Xidi
Located in southern Anhui Province, Xidi Village is about 5.6 miles (9 km) from Yixian County. It adjoins the famous Mt. Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) on the north, Mt. Qiyun (Baiyue) on the south, the historical and cultural county Shexian on the east, and Taiping Lake on the west. The small and enchanting ancient village Xidi is 700 meters in length and 300 meters in width.

Xidi belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate with an yearly average temperature of about 59.9ºF (15.5ºC). It has four distinct seasons influenced by the subtropics.
Transportation in Xidi
To go to Xidi, visitors can get to Huangshan City by train or by air firstly and then take a bus to Yixian County. Later transfer to Xidi Village by bus.
Travel & Sightseeing in Xidi
Countless appreciation has made Xidi one of the top ten most charming towns of China. True to its reputation, Xidi is the treasure of ancient dwelling architectural art. The most well-known characteristics of Xidi are her perfectly preserved 124 folk houses which vividly display the basic appearances and characters of the villages of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. These houses witness the vicissitude of history and reflect profound local culture. Xidi Village boasts many Anhui-style buildings arranged exquisitely with fine decoration. There are also many well-preserved memorial arches at Xidi. The most famous one is Hu Wenguang Memorial Arch which has a history of over 400 years. Hu Wenguang was an prefectural governor in Ming Dynasty. The memorial arch has three doors, four pillars and five layers. The whole building is solemn and elegant with splendid stone carving. It is also a representative of the Anhui-style carving building of the Ming Dynasty. Other attractions like Lingyun Pavilion, Cishi (a kind of official title) Decorated Archway, Ruiyu Yard, and Taoli Garden are also worth visiting.
