Yading's Location in China

Yading

Yading is a national reserve in Sichuan Province of China. The full name of Yading is Yading Nature Reserve. It is discovered by Joseph Rock in 1928 and is said to be the last "Shangri-La" in the world. It is not only a sacred land for Tibetan pilgrimages and a nature reserve with charming landscape, but also an ideal place for one to purify his heart and temporarily escape from the blatant metropolis.

Location and topography of Yading

Located in the southwest part of Sichuan Province, Yading Nature Reserve is in the southern part of Daocheng (Dabpa) County subordinated to the Aba Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

Climate in Yading

Most time there are pleasant sunshine days. Rich rainfalls and fog in summer while snow falls in nighttime. Due to its high altitude, Yading's average temperature in summer is about 50ºF (10ºC) while in summer is about 23ºF (-5ºC). The best season to visit Yading is between May and October.

Transportation in Yading

Yading is one of the best preserved nature reserve partially because of its incommodious transportation. Therefore, visitors can't find direct flights, trains or buses to Yading until now. Visitors can take a bus departing from Chengdu to reach Daocheng County and then transfer to Yading Nature Reserve. The total length of this route is about 497 miles (800 km).

Travel & Sightseeing in Yading

The attractive Yading Nature Reserve is well-known is renowned for the 3 holy peaks, which were blessed in the 8th century by Buddha Padmasambhava of projecting his divine light onto the range and naming the 3 elevations after 3 bodhisattvas. The south peak Jambeyang (or Jampelyang, Yangmaiyong) of 5,958m is said to be the avatar of Manjushri (the Bodhisattva of Wisdom). The east peak Chanadorje (or Xianuoduoji) of almost the same height symbolizes Vajrapani (the Bodhisattva of Wrath). The north peak Chenresig (or Chenrezig, Xiannairi  ) of 6,032m, represents Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Mercy). It's said that if a Tibetan pilgrimage to the shrine 3 times in life, he can be blessed with all he desires. Unreligious people come to this holy land for Yading's awe-inspiring beautiful sceneries, such as Five-Color Lake (which changes its colors from green to deep blue upon light conditions), Milk Lake (a glacier-fed lake with striking bright green color), and Pearl Lake. Chonggu Monastery and Luorong Pasture are other two main attractions in Yading. It also offers a good opportunity for visitors to experience the life of Tibetan People.
