Yichang's Location in China
Yichang
Yichang is a city in Hubei Province of China. Due to its advantageous geographic location, Yichang has been a transportation hub along the Yangtze River since ancient times and has been called as "Gateway to the Three Gorges", and "Throat between Sichuan and Hubei". More and more visitors come visiting Yichang especially since the construction of the famous Three Gorges Project.
Location and topography of Yichang
Situated in western Hubei, Yichang lies on the northern bank of the Yangtze River and covers an area of about 21,000 sq. km. Yichang features mountains and forest in the west and flat fertile land in the east.
Climate in Yichang
Yichang enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant sunshine and rainfall. It has four distinct seasons and the average annual temperature is around 59 F (15 C). The best seasons for visiting are spring and autumn, when the climate is favorable and pleasant.
Transportation in Yichang
By Air
Yichang Sanxia Airport is 16.2 miles (26 kilometers) from the city proper and 55 kilometers (34.2 miles) from Three Gorges Dam. The airport has opened the city up to visitors from other major cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Guangzhou. The international airlines flying to and from Hong Kong and Japan is only temporary for now.
By Train
Yichang Railway Station is one of the busiest railway stations in China. It offers trains coming and going to most of the big cities of China every day, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Guangzhou and Hankou.
By Bus
There are three bus stations in Yichang City: Yichang Bus Station, Dagongqiao Bus Station and Haitong Bus Station. Regular buses to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xian, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan, etc. are available. Besides, there are also daily buses to the neighboring areas of Yichang.
By Water
Yichang Port (also known as the Ninth Wharf) is one of the eight important ports on Yangtze River. There are ferries to and from Chongqing, Badong, Wanzhou, Fengjie, etc. Taking a cruise ship in Yichang is a good choice to enjoy the scenery along the Yangtze River and the magnificent Three Gorges.
