Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie is a city in Hunan Province. Zhangjiajie is most famous for its stunning natural landscape and attract domestic and overseas visitors especially after the Wulingyuan Scenic Area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Besides, it is worth visiting the unique custom and lifestyles of Miao, Tujia, Hui and other ethnic minorities.

Location and topography of Zhangjiajie

Located in the northwest of Hunan Province, Zhangjiajie City occupies an area of 9,516 sq. km and has four areas under its governance: Yongding District and Wuling District, Cili County and Sangzhi County.

Climate in Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie belongs to the humid subtropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of about 60.8ºF (16ºC). The four seasons are distinct from each other while the summer is not hot and the winter is not too cold.

By Air

Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport is about 3 miles (5 km) from the city proper and serves over 50 destinations to mainland Chinese cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Xian, Shenyang, Tianjin, Nanjing and Changsha.

By Train

The main station in Zhangjiajie is the Zhangjiajie Railway Station which is about 7 miles (12 km) from the city proper. Trains to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha are available.

By Bus

Zhangjiajie Long-distance Bus Station offers regular buses to cities such as Changde, Shanghai, Changsha, Yueyang, Wuhan, Dongguan and Zhuhai. There are buses to the nearby scenic areas and surrounding counties such as Fenghuang (Phoenix) County daily.

Travel & Sightseeing in Zhangjiajie

The advantageous geologic position brings to Zhangjiajie a pleasant climate and breathtaking natural beauty. The most important attractions centralize in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. It mainly include Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (the first state-level forest park in China), Suoxiyu Nature Reserve and Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve. The views in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park include the crystal clear Golden Whip Stream, Huangshi Fort and Yuanjiajie. The Suoxiyu Nature Reserve includes the Ten-mile Gallery, the amazing West Sea, and the Baofeng Lake. The Tianzi Mountain Natural Resource Reserve is rich in strange peaks and rocks, and inconstant clouds and fog. Additionally, attractions like Tianmen Mountain, Huanglong Cave, and Longwang Cave are also good places to visit. Drifting on the Maoyan River and visiting local minorities will also bring surprise to your tour.
