Fujian, with the capital of Fuzhou, is located on the southeast coast of China, facing Taiwan Strait to the east. Covering an area of around 120,000 square kilometers (about 46,335 square miles), Fujian has almost 34.7 million permanent resident population. Fujian is the renowned hometown for many overseas Chinese, and the majority of people in Taiwan are descendant of emigrants from southern Fujian. Thanks to being blessed with a rich history, famous historical sites and fantastic landscapes, Fujian has been a unique tourist destination in China; typical cities cover Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Putian, and Zhangzhou.

Location of Fujian

As one of the provinces on the southeast coast of China, Fujian neighbors Zhejiang to the north, Jiangxi to the west, and Guangdong to the south. It faces East China Sea to the east, South China Sea to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the southeast.

Fujian is mostly mountainous; and is traditionally described to be "Eight Parts Mountain, one part water, and one part farmland". Its terrain gradually descends from northwest to southeast. The highest point of Fujian is Huanggang Peak in the Wuyi Mountains, with an altitude of 2175m. A sinuous coastline with many gulfs provides Fujian with many favorable seaports like Mawei, Xiamen, and Dongshan. Chinmen Tao, Dongshan Dao, and Haitan Dao are three major islands among many along the coast, and they are the main tourist attractions.

Climate of Fujian

Subtropical humid monsoon climate rules the area, which blurs the seasonal difference, and brings to Fujian plenty of rains. Annual average rainfall ranges from a low of 1,400 mm to a high of 2,000 mm, and annual average temperature from a low of 17 C to a high of 21 C. It is hospitable in all seasons for travelers in this province.

Transportation in Fujian

Railway in Fujian

Yingtan-Xiamen railway runs through the province from north to south, and is joined by an extensive railway system made up of Hengfeng-Nanping. Zhangping-Longchuan and Zhangping-Quanzhou railways connect Fujian conveniently with Guangdong and Jiangxi.

Highways in Fujian

Centered round Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Nanping and Yong'an, national highway system connects every city and county in Fujian. Four express highways including Fuzhou-Quanzhou, Quanzhou-Xiamen, Fuzhou-Ningde and Longyan-Zhangzhou have also been put into use.

Airways in Fujian

Two international airports have been built in Fuzhou and Xiamen, providing flight courses to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong and over 40 other cities in China as well as destinations in Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.

Waterways in Fujian

Fuzhou port is one of China's ten major container loading ports. Xiamen, Quanzhou, Mawei have been the main seaports historically. Freights from Fujian go directly to Dalian, Shanghai, Hainan, Hong Kong and other domestic seaports as well as neighboring countries like Japan.

Travel & Sightseeing in Fujian

Gorgeous natural landscape and luxurious historical sites make Fujian a top tourist attraction. Mount Wuyi (Wuyi Shan) may enlighten you with its wonderland tour, possessing beautiful mountains, vigorous rocks and limpid waters. Gulangyu Island, also called "the Garden on the Sea", is a world of sea breezes, sunshine and exotic architecture with a Mediterranean flavor. Nanputuo Temple, among the four well-known Buddhist shrines in China, has the longest and most prestigious history. Earth Towers of the Hakkas in Yongding area are the much fabled mountain residences in this world of make believe. Besides, Shuzhuang Gargen, Nanshan Temple and Crag of Sunlight are all the top tourist attractions.
In addition, Fujian is the home of Wulong Tea, and produces many world renowned brands of black teas as well as a great variety of fresh fruits.
