With Nanning as its capital, Guangxi, located on the south border of China, is one of the five ethnic minority autonomous regions in China. It covers an area of over 230,000 square kilometers and has a population of 48.3 million, including such ethnic groups as Han, Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong, and Shui. Among them Zhuang people make up 1/3 of the total population. Over 90% of Zhuang in China live in Guangxi. Besides its ethnic diversity, Guangxi is best known for the stunning Karst scenery in Guilin and Yangshuo. Notable cities and towns of Guangxi include Guilin, Yangshuo, Nanning, Beihai, Liuzhou.
Location of Guangxi
Located in the southern part of China, Guangxi is bordered by Yunnan to the west, Guizhou to the north, Hunan to the northeast, and Guangdong to the southeast. It is also bounded by Vietnam in the southwest and the Gulf of Tonkin in the south.
Guangxi is a mountainous region. With widely spread limestone, its terrain gradually descends from the northwest to the southeast. The highest point is Mount Mao'er located in northeast of Guilin, at 2141 m. Many rivers cut valleys through the mountains. Scenery along the Li River between Guilin and Yangshuo is the top tourist attraction. Guangxi has a sinuous coastline, thus many seaports like Beihai, Fangchenggang, etc.
Climate of Guangxi
With Tropic of Cancer go through, subtropical humid monsoon climate rules the area, bringing about abundant rainfall and high temprature together with a clear distinctiion between dry and wet seasons. Summers are generally long and hot. Average annual temperature is 17 to 23°C, with an average temprature in January between 6-16°C, while in July between 25-29°C.

Airports have been built in Guilin, Nanning, Beihai, Liuzhou and Wuzhou, with flight courses connecting Guangxi with most major cities in China as well as neighbouring coutries like Viienam, Thailand and Japan.

Travel & Sightseeing in Guangxi
Gorgeous natural scenery and spectacular Karst physiognomy make Guangxi a great tourist attraction. The major tourist attraction of Guangxi is Guilin, a city famed across China and the world for its spectacular setting by the crystal clear Lijiang River (Li River) amongst fantastic severe karst peaks. South of Guilin down the river is the town of Yangshuo, which has become a favourite destination for foreign tourists, particularly backpackers.
Ethnic minorities native to Guangxi are also interesting for tourists. Longsheng rice terraces, Chengyang Bridge and Mapang Drum Tower show distinctive characteristic of the region's ethnic architecture style.
