Distinctive from other provinces, Hainan Island is the second largest ocean island after Taiwan Strait and the smallest land province in China. With Haikou as its capital, it covers an area of 35,000 square kilometers with a populating of 7.11 million, among which one million are ethnic minorities with Miao and Li being the most typical ones. Hainan Island has been regarded as “the Oriental Hawaii” and gained a good reputation among the international and domestic tourists, although its sceneries lack the grandness of the Great Wall and the mystery of the Terror-Cotta Warriors. It won the reputation for its breathtaking natural beauty in remarkable cities of Sanya and Haikou.

Location of Hainan Island

Located at the south end of China, its neighboring countries are Philippines towards the east, Malaysia and Brunei towards the south, Indonesia (Natuna Islands) towards the southwest, and Vietnam towards the west.

Hainan Island is considered as the second largest island with Taiwan as the largest. Mesas and lands take up 2/3 of the island’s total area. With Wuzhi Mountain and Limu Ling Mountain in the middle, its terrain descends from middle to the outer circle in the shape of a pear. Its administrative regions include Hainan Island, Xisha archipelago, Zhongsha archipelago and Nansha archipelago, and James Shoal (???Zengmu Ansha) signifies the Chian’s southernmost border. Major rivers are Nandu Jiang, Changhua Jiang and Wanquan Jiang, with few lakes on the island. All of that forms the unique natural sceneries, and makes it as the most attractive destination.

Climate of Hainan

Hainan is an ideal place to be away from the cold winter with average temperature 16? to 24? in January and February, and 25? to 29? in July and August. There are plenty of rainfalls in this region with rainy seasons from May to October. Between November and March the next year are the best time for your tour.

Transportation in Hainan

Railways in Hainan

Railway ferry link was established in early 2000s connecting the island’s railroad network to the mainland. It is the Sanya-Dongfang-Changjiang railway.

Highways in Hainan

Highway transportation plays a major role in the transportation system on the island. Three national highways run though the island from north to south, connecting over 300 townships and tourists attractions. Round-island express highway has been put into use.

Airways in Hainan

Meilan and Fenghuang Airports have flights to over 40 major cities in China as well as destinations in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

Waterways in Hainan

Sea transportation is a major way for Hainan to connect with the outside world. There are over 60 natural harbors around this island, and over 20 sea ports have been built, including Haikou, Sanya, Basuo, Yangpu and Qinglan. Nearly 70 international sea routes start from Haikou and Sanya.

Travel & Sightseeing in Hainan

With pleasant climate and evergreen vegetation, Hainan exhibits unique tropical and subtropical scenery of island. Tropical Seashore of Sanya is well known winter resorts with fine white sands clean sea water. Sanya Tropical Beach Area is one of the China’s well-known scenic attractions with Tianyahaijiao and Dadonghai enchanting beaches which boast blue sea, azure sky, misty waves, lots of sails and coconut trees dancing in the breeze. How wonderful the visit is! Besides, the historical sites include the Wulong Shrine, Hairui Tomb, Dongpo Academy, which are worth a visit.
In addition, Li and Miao Villages are also the main attractions for the tourists owing to their hospitable welcome and beautiful singing and dancing performance. Hainan cuisine is famous for the fresh and delicious seafood.
