Jiangsu Province

With Nanjing as its capital, Jiangsu province is located in the east of China, along the lower reaches of Yangtze River and Huaihe River. Covering an area of over 100,000 square kilometers, it has a population of 71.64 million people. Nanjing, as one of the six ancient capitals in China, has a long history, so it has numerous tourist attractions for the travelers to visit. Suzhou is a world well-known garden city as well as the center city of cotton, silk and cotton in ancient time attracting more and more tourists abroad and home, therefore, all of that makes Jiangsu as a top destination in China tourism.

Location of Jiangsu

Jiangsu neighbors Shandong Province in the north, Anhui Province in the west, Shanghai Municipality and Zhejiang Province in the south.

With plain and water covering 68% and 18% of its total area, Jiangsu is very flat and low-lying, and most of the province is mot more than fifty meters above sea level. Jiangsu is noted for the irrigation system and won the reputation of "Water of land", such as the Grand Canal of China, besides; it helps Suzhou get the honor of "Venice of the East". It also borders Yellow Sea and the Yangtze River cuts through it, which makes numerous tourist attractions. Except for the rivers, there are a lot of lakes, like Taihu Lake.

Climate of Jiangsu

Jiangsu enjoys mild temperature and adequate rainfall, with an annual average temperature ranging from 13?~16?. There are four distinctive seasons with cold winter and hot summer. Besides, the annual average rainfall is 800 to 1,200 millimeters. So, the best time to visit should be the spring and autumn.

Railways in Jiangsu

Centered round Nanjing and Xuzhou, four main stems including Beijing-Shanghai, Lanzhou-Lianyungang and Nanjing-Tongling railways all run through Jiangsu.

Highways in Jiangsu

Every city and county can be connected by the national or provincial highways. Express highways, Shanghai-Nanjing, Nanjing-Hefei, Nanjing-Nantong and Nanjing-Lianyungang have been put into use.

Centered round Nanjing and other major cities, flight courses have been provided to connect all cities in China.

Waterways in Jiangsu

Yangtze River runs through Jiangsu from west to east, while Jianghang Yunhe(Grand Canal) runs from north to south, providing the province a convenient water transportation system. Nanjing, Nantong, and Zhengjing are the most important ports. Among them, Nanjing is the largest river port, while, Lianyungang is a renowned sea port.

Travel & Sightseeing in Jiangsu

With a long history behind, Jiangsu has brilliant and rich cultural relics, and is most famous for its architecture of Chinese ancient private gardens. Classical gardens of Suzhou and Xiaoling Tomb of Ming Dynasty have been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Suzhou's classical gardens are exemplary combination of architecture, plantation, carvings and paintings. Taihu Lake, lied in the south of Changjiang Delta, has the spectacular natural scenery and rich historical remains attracting large numbers of tourists. Yangzhou is also an attractive city with traditional architectures.

Other popular sits include the Mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen, Zhonghuamen Gate and Xuanwu Lake.
