Qinghai Province

With Xining as its capital, Qinghai, named after the Qinghai Lake, is located in the northwest China, on the northeast part of Tibet Plateau. Occupying a total area of over 720,000 square kilometers, it holds a population of 4.92 million. Qinghai province is known as the "Roof of the World" along with Tibet. Qinghai has been the top tourist destination not only for its spectacular landscapes but also for its colorful local customs. Remarkable cities and towns contain Xining city, Haibei, Hainan, Haidong, Haixi Towns, and more.

Location of Qinghai

As China's fourth largest province, Qinghai borders Gansu on the northeast, the Xinjiang Autonomous Region on the northwest, Sichuan on the southeast, and Tibet Autonomous Region on the southwest.

Large area of steep mountains and highlands in Qinghai are intersected by basins and valleys, giving it an average altitude of above 3,000m. Qinghai's terrain is framed by Qilian Mount in the north, Kunlun Mount in the middle and Tanggula Mount in the south. China's three major rivers start here, including the Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancengjiang River. Qinghai Lake is the largest inland salt lake in China, and there are many other fresh water lakes. The unique highlands and rivers form the unique Qinghai tourism.

Climate of Qinghai

Typical continental highland climate rules the province, characterized by sharp change in daily temperature. Summer here is short and dry, while winter is long and cold. Annual rainfall is between 50-400mm. The average annual temperature is between -5?~8?.Summer is the best time to have your tour.

Lanzhou-Qinghai railway is the artery line connecting Qinghai with the outside world. Qinghai-Xizang railway has now reaches Lhasa.
