With Jinan as its capital, Shandong province is located in the north of China's coast line, along the lower reaches of Yellow River, bordering on Yellow River and East China Sea. Covering an area of more than 150,000 square kilometers, it boasts a population of 91.08 million. With a over 5,000 years old history, Shandong is considered as one of the birth places of Chinese civilization, and has been the home of the historical figures like Confusion, the great thinker, educator and state man. The rich history and brilliant culture give it plentiful tourism resources. Notable cities include Jinan, Qingdao, Qufu, Yantai, Jining and more.
Location of Shandong
Shandong borders the Bohai Sea to the north, Hebei to the northwest, Henan to the west, Jiangsu to the south, and the Yellow Sea to the southeast.
Shandong is mostly flat in terrain. The prominent mountains include the Mt. Taishan, Mt. Mengshan, and Mt. Lushan. The highest peak is the highest peak in the Mt. Taishan area: Jade Emperor Peak, with a height of 1545m. The Yellow River runs from west to east and the Grand Canal (Jianghang Yunhe) runs from north to south, which breed the inhabitants. Among them, Mt. Taishan has been included in the World Heritage List by the UNESCO as well as the top attractions in the region.
Climate of Shandong
Shandong province is always affected by marine monsoons, especially during the summer time. The climate is featured by rain during the summer and autumn and a dry winter. The annual average temperature is 11~14?.

Railways in Shandong
Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Kowloon railways run across Shandong from North to south, while Jinan-Qingdao railway runs from east to west. They are joined by over 20 provincial railways.

Centered round Jinan, Weifang, Linyi, Tai'an and Jining, several national highways run across the whole province, connecting every city and county.

With nearly ten airports in the province, it is conveniently connected with over 30 major cities in China as well as destinations in Japan, R.O.Korea and Singapore.
Waterways in Shandong
There are over 30 ports along its coast. Qingdao, Yantai and Rizhao are the deep sea ports with ocean routes connecting conveniently with dozens of countries.
Travel & Sightseeing in Shandong
Shandong boasts not only the beautiful natural landscape but also the historical relics. Mt. Taishan is the border on Jinan and Tai'an, the No, 1 in the Five Sacred Mountains in China. Mt. Laoshan, located to the northeast of Qingdao, is a renowned scenic spot bordering on sea. Jinan is named the "city of spring" with the Daming Lake as the top attraction. The Temple of Confusion is located in the Qufu city and attracts numerous tourists abroad and home. Mt. Taishan, Temple, Cemetery and Mansion of Confucius have been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO.
