Shanxi Province

Shanxi, referring to its location of "West of Taihang Mountain", is situated in north China. Covering a total area of over 150,000 square kilometers, it has a population of 32.68 million, including its minority ethnic population. Shanxi is one of the birth places of Chinese civilization with a long history and traditional culture, which endows it with an abundance of culture sites and ancient spectacular architectures. And it is always raised as the "Chinese Ancient Architecture Museum", and has been a top destination for the tourists abroad and domestic.

Location of Shanxi

Located to the east of the Yellow River, Shanxi is adjacent to the provinces of Hebei on the east, Henan on the south, Shaanxi on the west and Inner Mongolia on the north.

With Mount Taihang, Wutai Shan and Hengshan to the east and LvLing Mount and Huangtu Plateau to the west, Shanxi' terrain descends from both sides towards the middle.two thirds of the province is taken up by the plateau, part of the loess plateau. The major rivers include Fenher, Qinghe and Sushuihe, which are the main branches of the Yellow River. Therefore, the sceneries between the mountains and waters are also the major attractions.

Climate of Shanxi

Temperate semi-humid and semi-arid continental monsoon climate rules the province, which brings about distinctive seasonal difference to Shanxi. Hot, rainy summers and cold, dry winters are joined by windy springs and short autumns in between. The annual average temperature is between 4~14℃.

Railways in Shanxi

Datong-Huashan, Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan, Taiyuan-Xinxiang, Handan-Changzhi, Datong-Qinhuangdao and other major stem railways are connected with national artery railways like Beijing-Baotou, Beijing-Guangzhou and Lanzhou-Lianyungang, forming an extremely convenient railway network reaching every major city and major northern sea ports in China.

Highways in Shanxi

Centered round Taiyuan, Datong, Changzhi, Linfen and Houma, a complete highway network composed by national highways and provincial highways has been completed.

Airways in Shanxi

Wusu Airport in Taiyuan provides flight courses to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and 20 other major cities in China.

Travel & Sightseeing in Shanxi

As one of the cradles of Chinese culture, Shanxi has rich historical and cultural relics. The more obvious of these include: the Buddhist wonder of the Yungang Grottoes in Datong City, the ancient city of Pingyao, listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO, the oldest and tallest ancient wooden pagoda in China, the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County and the remote Shuanglin and Jinci Temples, which are well worth the long tours for the visitors.

In addition, there are a number of natural magnificent and beautiful places that can also be seen in Shanxi. The most famous of them include Wutai Mountain, the Yellow River's Kettle Spout waterfalls and one of the Five Sacred Mountains in China - Mt Hengshan.
