Sichuan Province
With Chengdu as its capital, Sichuan province is located in the southwest of China. Occupying a total area of over 480,000 square kilometers, it has a population of 87million, the largest population in China. Sichuan has long been known as "a land of plenty" or "Heaven on Earth" for its abundance products. Chengdu is the cultural and industrial center for the agricultural Chengdu Plain. The historical and cultural relics and the beautiful natural landscape have made it a top destination in China tourism. Remarkable cities include Jiuzhaigou, Leshan, Garze, Aba and Meishan.
Location of Sichuan
Located in the upper reaches of the Changjiang (Yangtze) River in the southwest part of China, Sichuan is bounded by Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Yunnan, Guizhou, Tibet and Chongqing Municipality.
Sichuan lies in the Sichuan basin and is surrounded by the Himalayas to the east, Qinling range to the north, and mountainous area of Yunnan to the south. The Yangtze River flows through the area and thus is upstream to the region and has been the top attraction. Plate tectonics forms the Longmen Shan fault, which runs under the northeastern mountain location of the 2008 earthquake.
Climate of Sichuan
The climate is highly variable. The Sichuan Basin (including Chengdu) in eastern half of the province experiences a subtropical monsoon climate with long, warm to hot, humid summers and short, cool to cold, dry and cloudy winters, with China's lowest sunshine totals. The western areas have a mountainous climate characterized by very cold winters and mild summers, with plentiful sunshine. The southern part of the province, including Panzhihua, has a sunny, subtropical climate with very mild winters and hot summers.

Railways in Sichuan
Baoji-Chengdu, Chengdu-Chongqing, Chengdu-Kunming, Chengdu-Dazhou and Dazhou-Wanzhou railways run through Sichuan province, and the newly built railways Baoji-Chengdu, double track railway can connect with China's major trunk line Lanzhou-Lianyungang railway.
Highways in Sichuan
Centered round Chengdu and Nanchong, Sichuan's highway system extend in all directions, reaching every city and county. Major highways are: Sichuan-Tibet, Sichuan-Qinghai and Sichuan-Gansu, etc.
Airways in Sichuan
Shuangliu Airport in Chengdu is one of China's four major air terminals. Over 140 flight courses connect Sichuan with many domestic and international cities.
Waterways in Sichuan
Yangtze River and its main branch within Sichuan provide it with extensive water navigation system. Major river ports include Yibin, Luzhou, Leshan, Hejiang and Nanchong.

Tourism in Sichuan is quite developed, boasting three places on the world Cultural and Natural Heritage List: Jiuzhagou Scenic Area, Huang Long Valley (Yellow Dragon Valley) and Mount Emeishan including Leshan Giant Buddha. Tourists to Sichuan can experience a wide variety of spectacular landscapes consisting of mountains, ravines, basins, hills, plains, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, limestone caves and more wonder sites such as the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project of China.
