Administratively Tianjin is one of the four municipalities that have provincial-level status, reporting directly to the central government. Located on the northeast of Huaibei Plain, along the lower reach of Haihe River, Tianjin covers an area of more than 11,000 square kilometers, and boasts a population of 9.32 million. It is ever exaggerated to say that Tianjin bears a splendid historical background, although it was invaded by the foreign intruders. Location of Tianjin
Tianjin is at the northern end of the Grand Canal of China, which connects with the Yellow River and Yangtze River. It is generally flat, and swampy near the coast, but hilly in the far north, where the Yanshan Mountain pass through the tip of northern Tianjin, The highest point is Jiushanding Peak on the northern border with Hebei, at an altitude of 1078m. Haihe is the largest river in Tianjin. Due to its location of the coast, it boasts numerous coastline towns and ports which attract more and more tourists both abroad and home.

Tianjin boats a distinctive seasonal difference climate with hot, rainy summer, and cold, dry winter joined by short springs and autumns in between. Annual rainfall in this area is between 550~680mm. The average temperature is around 12?, with an average temperature of -6~-4? in January and 26? in July.

Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Harbin are the two main stem railways. Tianjin-Bazhou railway is connected with Beijing-Kowloon trunk line, making Tianjin a transportation hub in north China.

Several national highways run through Tianjin, which connects every county and town. Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu, Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Shenyang are the three express Highways.
