Tibet (Xizang), the Roof of the world, remained primitive to the world until the beginning of the 20th century. With Lhasa as its capital, it is located on the southwest part of Qingzang Plateau, along the southwest border of China. Covering a total area of over 1.2 million square kilometers, Tibet boasts a population of over 2.59 million, and Tibetan take up 95% of the total population. Its long history and exotic religion allures more and more tourists every year. Lhasa and Shigase are the most important cities of Tibet, and feature most of the religious monuments including the Potala Palace a more. It has been the most attractive and wondrous destination for the tourists.

Location of Tibet

With an average height of 4,000 meters above sea level, Tibet is encompassed by some of the world's highest mountains. The Himalayas to the south, the Karakoram to the west, and the Kunlun to the north are the dream lands of all adventurers and mountaineers to have a tour with an indelible life long memory. Tibet is also the cradle of several great rivers such as the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancang River, with awesome and beautiful lakes and valleys.

Climate of Tibet

Tibet enjoys a Plateau climate with low temperature, thin air and little amount of rainfall, but the long sunshine can balance its climate drawbacks. It has a sharp change in daily temperature. The annual rainfall is between 50~500mm. the average annual temperature in January here is between -4~-10℃, while in July around 15℃. On the north highland, there is a half-year frozen period.

Centered round Lhasa, Xigaze, Qamdo and Nagqu, highways like Qinghai-Tibet, Sichuan-Tibet, Yunnan-Tibet, and Xinjiang-Tibet formed a diamond shaped highway network in this region.

Tibet boasts plenty of attractions for the scholars, tourists, explorers from abroad and home for its majestic and grand sceneries, and mysterious religious culture. The top attraction destinations is the Chamdo Region where the tourists, scientists and mountaineers can experience the old civilization, pious religion beliefs, long history, and unsophisticated folkways. Lahsa Region is other top destination with Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Drepung Monastery and the modern development. Besides, Nakchu Region with the sites of Heavenly Lake Nmtso, Nagri Region, Nyingchi Region, Shannan Region and Shigatse Region are worth to have a visit and see.
