With Kunming as its capital, Yunnan province is located on the southwest of Yungui Plateau, southwest of China. Covering a total area of more than 380,000square kilometers, it boasts a population of over 41.76 million, and it is a typical multi-ethnic group province. This multiplicity of cultures has endowed the province with a rich heritage, making it endlessly fascinating. There is always a lot to see and visit for the tourists. The top destination in China absolutely should be Yunnan province. Remarkable cities include Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, Jinghong and Puer.

Location of Yunnan

Yunnan Province borders Guizhou Province and Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region to the east, Chongqing and Sichuan to the north, and Tibet Autonomous Region to the northwest.

Yunnan has a diverse topography that ranges from alpine mountain ranges to tropical rainforests and the greatest number of plant species in China (more than 18,000) as well as an incredible array of animals, including the Asian elephant and the protected Yunnan golden monkey. There is even a rainforest in the area known as Xishuangbanna where you will find many rare and endangered species of plants and animals.

Climate of Yunnan

Yunnan is praised as the “Spring Province” because of its always being cool and cozy all the year around. It has a tropic highland humid monsoon climate, featured by the cool summer and warm winter. The annual average temperature is 13-20°C and the annual rainfall is 1100 mm. all of the year is the best time to have your tour.

Railways in Yunnan

Chengdu-Kunming, Nanning-Kunming, Guiyang-Kunming and Neijiang-Kunming are the main railways connecting Yunnan with domestic cities and neighboring countries, and are joined by many provincial branch lines.

Centered round Kunming and Dali, Yunnan’s highways system extends in all directions.

Airways in Yunnan

Flight courses not only connect Kunming with some major cities in Yunnan, but also link it with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and over 60 other cities in China, as well as destinations in Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore, and Laos.

Waterways in Yunnan

Freights can sail from Shuifu port to Shanghai port directly. Other major ports are Simao and Jinghong.

Travel & Sightseeing in Yunnan

Yunnan boasts not only the natural beauty, wonders, gigantic forest of stones, but also the multiple cultures. The tremendous Dianchi Lake lies in to the southwest of the Kunming, circled by wonderful hills on four sides. The spectacular karst physiognomy, namely the forest of stones, is located in Shilin Yi County, and its charm is enhanced by numerous beautiful legends. Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve exhibits the enchanting beauty of tropical rainforest together with a rich array of wild animals and plants as well as the ethnic culture. Old Town of Lijiang and Three Parallel Rivers have been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Tourist attractions like Tengchong, Ruili, Dali and Jianshui all enjoy the world renown.
