Maps of Hongcun & Xidi
Xidi and Hongcun are two traditional villages located near the southwest slope of Mount Huangshan in southern Anhui province, eastern China. They both are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, because they preserve to a remarkable extent the appearance of traditional non-urban settlements created during a feudal period. Their street plan, architecture and decoration patterns, and the integration of houses with comprehensive water systems are unique surviving examples. Hongcun is called the "village in traditional Chinese painting" and was a location where the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was shot.
