The Three Gorges region is a scenic area along the Yangtze River in the Hubei Province, with a total length of about 200 kilometers, and it attracts more and more tourists from home and abroad due to the construction of the Three Gorges Dam which has become one of the wonders of the world, known as Xiling Gorge, Qutang Gorge, and Wuxia Gorge. The three gorges dam is currently being built that will displace over a million people, raise the water level upstream, and decrease the dramatic effect of the gorges by over 100 meters at the site, and less elsewhere. The dam will help control floods, provide irrigation and 84 million kwhs of hydroelectric power, and enable ocean-going ships to reach Chongqing.
