Guangzhou Central City & Downtown Maps
Guangzhou, formerly known by westerners as Canton, is a sub-provincial city, and has been the economic center of China for many years. Presently, the Guangzhou Central, namely the Downtown, consists of ten districts and two county-level cities, and the Guangzhou old center city properly contains the districts of Yuexiu Qu, Liwan Qu, Haizhu Qu, and Tianhe Qu, while Baiyun Qu, Huangpu Qu, Huadu Qu, Panyu Qu, Nansha Qu, Luohang Qu, Zengcheng City and Conghua City are correspondingly considered as the Guangzhou Suburban and Rural areas and the expanded districts.

Yuexiu District is the political and cultural center of Guangdong Province, famous for its high quality education.
Haizhu District used to be the largest in area and the least dense of the four old central districts in Guangzhou. Now, it has some of the priciest real estate in the city, which is due to its proximity to the central city.
Tianhe Sports Center, built in 1980s for the Sixth National Games, and the Guangzhou East Railway Station are contributed to the growth of Tianhe District. The field of the district becomes more and more valuable and expensive.
Liwan District covers an area of 16.2 square kilometers and has a permanent population of about 540,000 and a permanent nonnative population of over 200,000.
