Hong Kong Island Aberdeen Maps & Guide
Aberdeen used to be a pirates'den two centuries ago and later turned into a simple fishing village, then, in recent years, it becomes a vibrant waterfront resort for people from metropolitan Hong Kong because of its modernization. Located in the south shore of Hong Kong Island, it traditionally includes the town of Aberdeen, Wong Chuk Hang and Ap Lei Chau.
Traditional fishing lifestyle still remains in this area, especially, in Bei Fung Tong Typhoon Shelter of Aberdeen, where hundreds of junks and sampans, old-fashioned boats serve as floating homes for thousands of people. They crowd in the narrow harbor, dramatically stands against a modern high-rise building that spreads up the nearby hillsides. Tourists can enjoy the boating and taking a sampan ride by themselves.
You may not leave the site without tasting the local seafood on the magnificent floating restaurants: Jumbo and He Tai Bak, where the delicious seafood and local snacks serve for tourists.
Additionally, Aberdeen County Park or Aberdeen Promenade is a must-see site, which neighbors on Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market on the west and Aberdeen Squash & Tennis Center on the east with a total length of around 800 meters. Along the seashore of the Promenade, there are a few of piers, which offer the ships to Ap Lei Chau and the Outlying Islands.
There are a lot of buses and minibuses to get this area, so it is very convenient to have a tour in Hong Kong Island Aberdeen.
