As the capital of Hunan Province, Changsha is situated in the river valley along the lower part of Xiang River, with a long history of about 3,000 years. Therefore, there are numerous and grand historical and cultural attractions, and it also the transfer point for the tourists who travel on to Zhangjiajie, Yueyang, Hengyang or the famous Phoenix Town in the western part of Hunan. The famous Yuelu Academy, located at the foot of the scenic Mt. Yuelu on the west bank of Xiangjiang River, was the reputed feudal academic school in ancient times, and now is the site of Hunan University. Just opposite the Yuelu Scenic Area is the Long Island (Juzi Zhou), which is a good place for people to escape the summer heat. Mawangdui Han Tombs and Hunan Provincial Museum should not be missed.
