The Taipei Subway, also known as Taipei Metro or Taipei MRT (Taipei Rapid Transit System), is a rapid transit system serving Taipei city. The Taipei MRT system consists of 80 stations and 90.5 kilometers of revenue track with 9 subway lines. The system carried an average of over 1.4 million passengers per day according to the latest census.
Taipei MRT System has been effective in relieving some of Taipei's traffic congestion problems since it first began operation in 1996. The system has also proved effective as a catalyst for urban renewal, as well as increasing tourist traffic to outlying cities such as Danshui. Modifications to existing railway lines to integrate them into the metro system are underway.

Presently, there are 9 rapid transit lines in Taipei, offering passengers comfortable and safe surroundings from 06:00 to 24:00 daily, and the rapid transit is also inexpensive with fares ranging from NT20 to NT50. Easy card is also available on the subway or light rail. Besides, with a one day pass, tourists can conveniently take rapid transit in Taipei at will for the day.
