Located in the east of Zhejiang Province, Ningbo stands at the mid-point of the Chinese coastline, towards the south of the Yangtze River Delta. The city is one China’s oldest cities, presenting the birthplace of Hemudu Culture with a history of over 7000 years, which makes it what it is today: an economically-developed, modern city with a profound cultural foundation. With strong Buddhist connections and boasting a number of visually-impressive historical temples, Ningbo attracts more and more tourists home and abroad, including Baoguo Temple, Tianfeng Pagoda, Tianyi Pavilion and Yandang Mountain. Although Ningbo is striving towards modernization, the local traditional handicrafts remain undiminished including hand-plaited bamboo vases, screens and animal figures, ancient Gu Mu Xiangqian, bamboo root carving, etc.
